What is the difference between a web designer and a web developer?
A website is nothing more than an interaction between the user’s browser and the web server. The best way to understand what’s happening is to analyze the technologies used on your favorite websites and you browse the web. Then ask yourself, what you do enjoy more – content layout or code?
Web Designer Responsibilities

* Create the layout in the browser
* Understanding of mobile & responsive web design
* Must know HTML/CSS or WordPress
* Must know basic image editing
* May manage content or SEO
* Code knowledge is a plus
Web Developer Responsibilities
—
* Implement custom functions
* Must know code (PHP, MySQL, Ruby, Javascript, etc.)
* Build on existing code and document with comments
* Design knowledge is a plus but not necessary
Does your title matter? In my opinion, the answer is YES if you want a job, but a resounding NO if you are looking to work from home as a freelancer.
Start to think like a business owner, not an employee, and be creative with how you solve someone’s problem from scratch. You can learn code, use WordPress plugins, outsource, or find existing software.
If you stay in a job, you’ll never get long-term financial leverage or control of your time/schedule!
