The way web designers find clients has radically changed over the last couple of years. Gone are the days of “garden-variety” web design where you can just spin up a WordPress site for anybody who needs a website. Today, clients ALWAYS go with the specialist.
When given the choice, business owners always go with niche marketing agencies because working with a specialist provides the highest perceived likelihood of success.
It makes a difference what you specialize in. It does not help that much to specialize in a web design technology. For example, you don’t really get more clients by saying you’re a WordPress specialist or Shopify specialist because high-ticket clients are very rarely looking for technical implementation.
