AI art has been super popular for the past couple of months now, and web designers and developers have even taken a liking towards it. I’ve also created a few videos on the channel now that integrate ChatGPT and Midjourney into my workflow for designing websites. There’s no doubt that these AI tools can be super helpful to creatives and freelancers. However, while Midjourney can do a lot, we need to stop using Midjourney this way when it comes to giving us mockups or expecting it to design our site for us.

I’ve shown you in a lot of ways how to use Midjourney for web design, but today, I want to focus on how not to use Midjourney for web design. While AI art for web design can certainly provide good inspiration and ideas, it’s giving you results in the wrong medium. Remember, this AI tools generates drawings, paintings, and art… not websites, and not something that takes into account UI/UX principles. Hence, one of my biggest Midjourney tips for web designers is to use the tool for what it’s good at doing.

Stop using Midjourney for web design mockups and start using it for hero images, help with polishing concepts, and getting assets that you may not yet have. Midjourney can’t design your website, but it can help in polishing it. Maybe in the future Figma will integrate an AI tool to generate layers within the tool to make the actual possibility of AI designing a website more possible. We’re just not yet there yet, so leverage Midjourney to do what it’s good at doing: creating art and images.
