Okay, let’s talk about how to make money with web design. Specifically my plan on how to make $100k with web design over the next 12 months. The key to making good money with web design is having a workable plan right from the start. So let’s break down my plan (and you can use it also).
The Overall Plan:
So since I am starting a new web design business from scratch (as part of this challenge) I will have to build everything up from zero. With web design, you need mainly two things to make money – great past results and great sales skills.
So with this challenge, the goal is to build great web design results as fast as possible so that we can then start landing some high paying projects.
The first stage then to making money is to start with building a great web design portfolio.

The Portfolio Stage:
So without great results, it is quite hard to sell web design. Even if you have great sales skills people won’t be inclined to trust someone who can’t PROVE they are worth giving money too.
A lot of people at this stage think it is best to take whatever paying jobs they can get and then increase their rates over time. I highly disagree.
The best approach to quickly making good money with web design is to do the right types of projects from the very start. To make great web design money we later want to be doing the most profitable type of work. And to get that work we need to first show that we are worth someone spending that money. So quite simply – we want to quickly build a portfolio of web design work that SHOWS a business it is worth spending money on us.
This is a risky approach because you have to be first willing to work for free (or very cheap) for a few weeks or months before making any money. But once you have those excellent web design results you can quickly increase your rates way faster than other methods.
It is basically – build results for free, then go sell those same results to others.
So the first step to making great money with web design is building the best portfolio you can. Specifically – a portfolio that shows the VALUE you can offer other businesses. This is about real-world results – not over the top cool designs and flashy sites.
In future videos, I will show exactly how I find my portfolio clients (and why I picked them) and how I complete those projects.

The Second Stage I will Call “Building Results”
In this stage, we will use the above portfolio projects to start leveraging our first real paying projects. The trick here is to again target projects we can use later to increase our rates even more. We need to find businesses with big problems that we can solve which increases the client’s perception of our value.
Better real results = more potential value for a client to hire you = more money you can make.
At this stage, we want to stay away from projects that won’t get massive results. To land those bigger projects later ($10,000+) we will need to show why it makes sense for business owners to spend that amount. And the main reason is – we can make them a lot more money in return.
So this stage will focus on jobs where we can bring in a ton of new “something” for a client. The “something” might be more clients, more sales, more projects, more leads – whatever it is we need solid results that clearly shows businesses: “you spend $10,000+ on my website and I will make you 10-100 times that in return!”.

The Final Stage – Profitable Work
At this stage, we will hopefully have a great portfolio and plenty of good results. Using both of these we can now focus on the most profitable type of work we can find. Remember to sell you need both great results and great sales skills. So in this stage (since you have the results) you can start to really focus on learning to sell as effectively as possible. My goal with this challenge is to teach you exactly how to sell on this level and get huge results.
So that is it:
As for the actual money, we will make with web design I predict something like…
1st stage – “Portfolio Stage” – little to none for the first few weeks/months, 0 – $1,000 per project
2nd stage – “Building Results” – $1,000 – $5,000 per project
3rd stage – “Profitable Stage” – $5,000 – $20,000 plus per project
