Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a lot of new ways to build websites. Traditional WordPress workflows are still very much around, but AI-assisted tools, static site options, visual builders, and hybrid approaches are all starting to gain traction.
In this video, I’ll walk through a range of tools I’ve been testing and experimenting with. This isn’t a “top 10” list or a definitive ranking. It’s more of a snapshot of what’s out there, what’s interesting, and where I think things could be heading.
We’ll look at where WordPress currently fits, then explore newer options like Instatic, with its containerised plugin approach and built-in CMS, Webstudio as a more self-contained visual builder, and design-led workflows using tools like Relume and Figma Sites.
I’ll also touch on code-first options like Astro, along with tools such as Phantom Studio, formerly Phantom WP, which can help bridge the gap between visual design and more developer-focused workflows, including using WordPress as a CMS.
Then we’ll zoom out and ask the bigger question: does any of this matter long-term if search, discovery, and content are increasingly shifting towards AI-first answers?
